Childhood and adolescence
Oleg Viktorovich Novitsky was born in the autumn of 1971 in the city of Chervene, Minsk region, under the astrological sign of Libra. The young boy, along with his sister and two brothers, was raised in a typical Soviet family residing in the Belarusian SSR. Growing up, Oleg’s parents, who were both educated and intelligent individuals, provided their children with everything they needed. Throughout his childhood, the future Russian hero was nurtured and cared for by his loving mother and father. From a young age, Oleg developed a strong interest in all things related to aviation and space exploration. He harbored a dream of following in the footsteps of Yuri Gagarin, the first human to travel into space.

When Oleg entered general secondary school, he began immersing himself in thematic literature and watching documentary chronicles. During high school, his focus shifted towards physical training classes. At that stage, his main goal was to gain admission to a military school or institute. In interviews, the astronaut spoke fondly of his teachers and classmates. As a member of the squad at the Research Institute of the Central Cosmonautical Cosmonaut Training Center named after Yuri Gagarin, he made several visits to his hometown school. Both young and adult residents of Cherveni eagerly attended meetings with their heroic fellow countryman. Novitsky always engaged with people who showed an interest in his journey.
Oleg informed the crowd that his aspiration to venture into outer space motivated him to pursue specialized education at the esteemed V. P. Chkalov Higher Military Aviation School, situated in the Voronezh region. Subsequently, owing to various reorganizations within faculties and departments, the Belarusian native undertook studies in Volgograd and Yeisk.
Service in the Air Force
In the mid-1990s, Novitsky, a man with a slender physique standing at 180 cm, underwent retraining at the Borisoglebsk Aviation Center and became a member of the instructor fighter regiment in the Chkalov Central Fighter Regiment. With the ranks of private and senior pilot, this graduate of the school gained valuable hands-on experience. This experience proved invaluable during his tenure in the North Caucasus Military District, where he served as a squadron commander and later as deputy commander of an attack air squadron.

During the mid-2000s, there was a demand for additional theoretical knowledge, leading Oleg to enroll at the Air Force Academy named after Yuri Gagarin. Yuri Gagarin. Upon earning a graduate diploma from the command faculty and obtaining the qualification of a manager, the pilot-engineer took charge of one of the military formations within the Russian Air Force. of the Russian Air Force.. By becoming proficient in operating the Su-25 armored attack aircraft and the L-39 combat aircraft, the aspiring cosmonaut actively participated in the Russian armed forces’ mission in Chechnya.

The international astronauts conducted a spacewalk, while the Russian team received the Progress M-17M and SpaceX CRS-1 cargo spacecraft. Upon returning to Earth, the Belarusian native continued to maintain his physical fitness.
During the latter half of the 2010s, after successfully showcasing his capabilities in routine pre-flight examinations, he was selected to join the crew of the 48th/49th rotation on the manned space station. Subsequently, along with American biochemist Peggy Winston and French astronaut Thomas Pesquet, he became part of the 50/51st expedition to the International Space Station (ISS), where they spent a total of 162 days, 7 hours, and 23 minutes in orbit.

Oleg Novitsky’s personal life has been a resounding success. The astronaut is happily married to Yulia, a journalist, writer, and blogger who, in her younger years, served as a warrant officer in the reserve. The couple, who met in Borisoglebsk, are now proud parents to two beautiful daughters. From the articles published on the dedicated section of the "Roscosmos" website, the posts on their Twitter page, and the photos shared on their Instagram account, it is evident that the family is united and strong. The couple enjoys spending time in the company of fascinating individuals.

In the late summer of 2009, a special commission awarded him the qualification of “test cosmonaut”, and in 2010 he was promoted to the rank of colonel. However, two years later, Oleg Viktorovich retired from reserve military service. After leaving the Air Force, his life revolved around various training programs, intellectual and psychological tests required to become an active member of the squadron and flight engineer of the International Space Station. In 2012, Oleg Novitsky joined the main crew of the orbital station and embarked on his first flight to the ISS as the commander of the Soyuz TMA-06M manned passenger transport spacecraft.
Oleg Novitsky – astronaut
For over two months, Oleg Novitsky, also known by the call sign Kazbek-1, worked on the program approved by “Roscosmos” alongside colleagues Sunita Williams, Yuri Malenchenko, Akihiko Hoshide, Kevin Ford, and Evgeny Tarelkin. The international astronauts conducted spacewalks, while the Russian team received cargo ships Progress M-17M and SpaceX CRS-1. After returning to Earth, Novitsky, originally from Belarus, continued to maintain his physical fitness.
In the latter half of the 2010s, after successfully showcasing his abilities during routine pre-flight evaluations, he became part of the 48th/49th crew rotation aboard the manned space station, and later joined forces with American biochemist Peggy Winston and French astronaut Thomas Pesquet as part of the central team for the 50th/51st expedition to the International Space Station (ISS), which lasted for a total of 162 days, 7 hours, and 23 minutes in orbit.
Personal life
Oleg Novitsky has been successful in his personal life. The astronaut is happily married to Julia, who is a journalist, writer, and blogger. In her youth, she served as a warrant officer in the reserve. The couple, who originally met in Borisoglebsk, is now raising two beautiful daughters. Based on the articles featured on the “Roscosmos” website, tweets on their Twitter page, and photos posted on their “Instagram” account, it is evident that the family is strong and close-knit. Oleg and Julia enjoy spending time with interesting people.
