Instead, their departure to emigration was a beautiful spectacle, where the delicate lace of languid poetry and “socially harmful” music was woven in the looking glass of the Soviet era. The romances of the “lost” century resonated in restaurants and on smuggled gramophone records, always popular among the public yearning for free emotions.
